Food memories and nostalgia

On cold raining mornings I miss the curling mist of the mountains, the smell of pine and deodar, and the golden sun reflecting off the tree line. What brings back those memories is the aroma, colour, texture of food – not only of the place but also of the moment.

I haven’t traveled in a while and I miss the mountain cold on my shoulders and the food memories – Lemon ginger tea on the banks of river Baspa, Ema Datshi in a homestay in Bhutan, rajma-chawal from chachi ka dhaba in Chandratal….

A lot of my good memories include travel and food in some way or the other, I may not be traveling anytime soon but Dineout’s “Great Indian Restaurant Festival” is back with its fourth edition and I plan to reminiscence the culinary memories.  Covering over 8000 restaurants across 17 cities with flat 50% off everything, GIRF is also helping me save up for my next excursion while I enjoy the delicacies. Starting from 1st August the festival will spread gastronomical delights catering to a wide range of palates, for a whole month, up to 1st of September 2019.

Food has history, it has an origin and potential to build an entire community, perhaps Dineout’s Great Indian Restaurant Festival could plan my next travel – unearthing the ethnicity of a dish or its ingredients, its cultural, social or historical impact and its heritage. Food has an ability to be the ice breaker, I have bonded with complete strangers over shared meals. It has often acted as a conversation starter that has only helped me in my travels and enriched my experiences. An isolated village tucked away in intertwining forests has ancestral customs constituting a food heritage that is so diverse and unique that it is passed down generations as culinary currency. I have decided to relive the nostalgia of all my food memories and lookout for places that would be catering handed down recipes.

Go ahead and relive yours, download the Dineout app and book your table, let out the gourmet in you to fine food and favorite wine. The deals are limited and only thing better than your favorite food is your favorite food at half the price. With the #MonthOfMore with Dineout giving – a whopping flat 50% off (with no minimum or maximum limit) at India’s top 8000+ restaurants on food, drinks, buffet or the total food bill!

Also, keep an eye on their Flash Sales. “Every Tuesday and Thursday, Dineout will be running Flash Sale during GIRF. Get Deals at just Rs.11″  to Keep an eye on their Flash Sales to buy deals at only Rs. 11
